PM Modi Unveils IIM-Sambalpur's Green Marvel: A Synthesis of Culture, Technology, and Sustainability

A Neo-Modern Oasis: The campus, meticulously designed and supervised by DDF Consultants in collaboration with NBCC India, is a testament to architectural brilliance. Key structures, such as the Koutilya – Administration Building, Thakshasila 1 and 2 – Academic Blocks, Konark – Auditorium Block, I2 Hub, Faculty Block, MDP Block, and more, grace the landscape. Each element is a thoughtful creation, contributing to a holistic learning environment.

State-of-the-Art Facilities: The IIM-Sambalpur campus boasts a myriad of facilities, including multiple lecture halls, video conferencing amenities, and eleven hostels catering to 600 students. The infrastructure includes dedicated blocks for faculty and staff residences, a well-equipped computer centre, and an extensive library accessible 24/7. The commitment to excellence is evident in the incorporation of traditional chalkboards, digital boards, and blended boards in the lecture halls.

Cultural Inspiration: The design, conceptualized by DDF Consultants, draws inspiration from the rich culture and ethos of Odisha. The neo-modern aesthetic seamlessly integrates with local influences, creating a campus that not only belongs to the region but also stands out as an international hub for higher education. The Director of DDF Consultants emphasized the perfect blend of art and architecture, making it a visual and technological masterpiece.

Sustainable Practices: Recognizing the importance of environmental sustainability, the campus is set to receive a four-star rating from the GRIHA Council. The large Development Master Plan focuses on creating a green and smart campus with cutting-edge infrastructure. The emphasis on sustainability is seen in features such as daylit living areas, efficient utilization of treated water from the Sewage Treatment Plant for irrigation, and the integration of a photovoltaic solar power plant on the rooftop. The incorporation of LED lighting and adherence to the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) further underlines the commitment to reducing electricity consumption.

Towards a Green Future: The IIM-Sambalpur campus stands not just as a center for education but as a beacon of sustainable development. With its blend of cultural resonance, technological prowess, and environmental responsibility, it sets the stage for a new era in higher education in India. As the GRIHA Council is poised to recognize its green initiatives, the campus is a symbol of progress towards a greener and brighter future.
